Yana is a singer songwriter and has developed as an Empowerment leader and WomenÙs ambassador In the UK her passion is promoting positive ethnic representation and cultural awareness and diversity. The brand Yana Cosmetics brings empowerment positive self esteem and confidence to people via quality make up products & services.
After graduating University with a Science Degree, Yana began her career working in the corporate sector in the UK and interning in media in New York, for Polygram USA and Independent record label Eight ball records and Narcotic Records Inc. Returning to London to release her first album 'Bring it on' selling over 40,000 copies in Japan. Yana soon realised the attraction of ‘Black HollywoodÙ film stars and how they looked. In 2001 Yana launched Yana Cosmetics the UKÙs only Independent Premium make up brand suitable for Black, white and mixed skin tones that has won many awards and gain International recognition with Reps in America and across the UK.
After exhibiting at the Virginia Black Expo, the First International Rep was signed to service the South and new US markets. The Black Expo has a unique formula that brings empowerment, generates business and brings diversity and enterprise to all the towns it visits. Both YanaÙs work experience and involvement with the Black Expo is a template for success and a platform that businesses can now begin to network via international events and by exploring new markets within the UK and the US. There are businesses that can develop internationally and expand with great cultural exchange. In recognising patterns within the International markets a lot of business support and start up advice is very similar. Although international business is usually considered for larger businesses, even smaller companies can benefit from international clients. Such as web Design, PR etc which can be completed from a distance adding great benefits to both parties financially and raise profile of operations by having involvemen with International partners.
Business models such as Avon & Mary Kay have become well established since the first business models as started by Annie May Turnborough and Madame C J Walker who are historically the first black female millionaires in the 19th century via demonstrating to Church congregations with hair pomade, cosmetics and beauty training, their wealth was used to fund education, training and anti slavery programmes.
The UK is slow to embrace diversity where it matters and implement more products and services that not only understand but translate market needs, many make up wearers and cosmetic users are left at the mercy of the brands or suppliers who sometimes have little knowledge about the effects of the product suitable for the diverse ethnic marketplace, a fabulous opportunity to any such brands wishing to enter the UK marketplace. Many Americans are surprised at just how many Black there are in the British Population
Population Size 7.9% from a minority ethnic group
The size of the minority ethnic population was 4.6 million in 2001 or 7.9 per cent of the total population of the United Kingdom.
Half of the total minority ethnic population were Asians of Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi or other Asian origin. A quarter of minority ethnic people described themselves as Black, that is Black Caribbean, Black African or Other Black. Fifteen per cent of the minority ethnic population described their ethnic group as Mixed. About a third of this group were from White and Black Caribbean backgrounds.
Yana Quotes ‘I was not satisfied with how little representation there was for all skin tones particularly in the UK and in smaller states in the US, so I decided to do something about it. Women face so many challenges and need to feel confident, beautiful and whole; I believe that the right cosmetic products help you on that journey. Ù
Black icons and role models continue to be available via imported American media and Bollywood for Indian role models as well as Black Hollywood celebrities. The timing is right for a make up brand that truly represents todayÙs market which currently stands heavily underrepresented.
A Yana foundation is blended for you after a unique personal consultation to determine your skin tone. In under 20 minutes you can walk away with a pot of foundation that is non oily and conceals and enhances your skin tone perfectly. Your Yana blended foundation is kept on file which is then available for mail order or repurchase online. You will find the entire range of Yana Cosmetics long lasting, true toned pigments, easy to wear and apply. The specially trained consultants and Make up representatives will also show you how to use your products once you get home.
Following in the footsteps of Madame C J Walker, Yana believes that the brand should be available to others through training and a new scheme which trains you to become a Make up representative to become independent with make up sales and services to clients.
‘This model brings empowerment, independence, and great social growth. Using the unique Yana technique and Yana products, others can become representatives and develop their own make up sales and services to clients, as department stores should not be the only choiceÙ.
With representatives internationally you will soon be able to have a personalised service in your town, changing the way make up is brought and sold. With products and services designed with you in mind. If you are interested in becoming a Yana Make-up representative or for mail order visit;
